Call me 'Sir'

Bhaiyya!! please stop here, boss!! here itself, man!! that's it, uncle!! O.K. til here only etc. etc. These were the frequently heard words by a middle-aged taxi driver, Rahim. Cheerful, compassionate, vivacious and humane could be called synonyms of this desireful taxi-driver. Ya, I said desireful!! Although, like every ambitious man he didn't have a package of wishes and neither his zeal demanded him to be materialistic yet, a bud of alacrity had found a room in his heart as well.Even, the plate of gold or the key of fortune was not his hearty wish but to be saluted as 'sir' by anyone whether a little young fellow or an experienced old buddy was his eternal aspiration.
The streets of Sambalnagar had been his companion for last 20 years but he never found an incarnation to satisfy his zeal. But he neither complained nor blamed his fate for it. After all, his jolly nature was to be appreciated for it.Sooner or later, the omnipotent would shower his blessings on him, he believed.
He offered his aid to strangers or friends even in the autumn of his life. Being just on the right side of forty, not many days had left in his kitty. Unfortunately, this smiling face was the victim of asthma still 'Rahim' was the common call for all class of people. To share joy or sorrows of anyone was his priority. How could his colleagues could have forgotten his sacrifice to save a life of Ambar, another taxi-driver when he mortgaged his recently owned taxi?? Driving 13 nights in a row just to assist a stranger's family and donating blood to his colleague's son were among the chief achievements of him. Ya, helping others was like a reward for him. But unfortunately, he had himself been encaged by an untreatable curse.
The hope of being saluted as 'sir' could never be assassinated even by hardships of life and impudence of ill companions. 'A friend in need is a friend indeed' perhaps, should have been written for this gentle character only.
Few years passed away, people might have changed but Rahim was still 'Rahim' for everyone though, he was no longer a taxi-driver now. Helplessly, the bane of nature had hauled him from the streets of his world to under the four walled ceiling. But, his eyes were still gleaming with anticipation for......
Unendurable nights were passing and appointment with almighty was approaching. Remorseful looked all faces, tormenting seemed all hearts.Everyone knew his days were numbered but no pill but will was there. Nobody knew his hearty inclination and perhaps, even God also didn't wish to know.
But, It was around half past midnight when a melancholy and almost shivering voice struck in Rahim's ears suddenly. Adjusting himself, he got up somehow and found a young anxious lady standing other side of road, in a desperate need to reach hospital to save her mother's life :(
How a man who always valued nobility and benevolence could have moved back this time?? 'The wind of spiritual strength ran through him'. Rahim somehow arranged his old rickety taxi and took them to their destination. Even heavy rainfall, forlorn streets and his weak physique couldn't resist him.
'Thanks alot!! SIR', suddenly heard by Rahim. Oh!! it was Rahim only. Incredible, what he didn't think about for couple of weeks suddenly was before him. His only desire was satisfied by a young reporter girl. Undoubtedly, it was the happiest moment was his life and sadly, his last one too.
'Honour and dignity to be a 'sir' was the only reason to save my last breath till now, thanks pretty angel' were the last words spoken by a special gift of God, Rahim.
Getting to know about Rahim's eternal zeal through the reporter girl, taxi stand was renamed 'Rahim Sir Stand' as a tribute by the entire union, all taxis were tagged with 'SIR' and a special charity centre called 'Be a Sir' was opened by all the fans of Great Rahim Sir.
The magnanimous attitude and golden memories of Rahim Sir now exist in the DNA of Sambalnagar.
